The Oconee County Friends of the Library was organized in 1986 exclusively for benevolent purposes. It is an organization devoted to supporting the Oconee County Library System which is comprised of four libraries located in Walhalla, Westminster, Salem and Seneca, South Carolina. All activities are undertaken for the sole purpose of; (a) contributing financial and volunteer assistance to supplement the Libraries resources, (b) supporting Library programs and (c) stimulating community awareness, use and involvement with the Library.

  • Friends of the Library supplements the Oconee County Library funds used to purchase . . .
    • Books (both printed and audio) and other audio-visual materials.
    • Children's Summer Reading Program awards - t-shirts, book marks and guest appearances by musicians, magicians and storytellers.
    • Furnishings and accessories.
  • Friends sponsors book discussion groups . . .
    • "Let's Talk About It" - Two series of programs offered in conjunction with the South Carolina Humanities Council that are led by guest professors from local colleges.
    • "Great Books" - a self directed discussion group that meets monthly.
  • Friends organizes . . .
    • Used Book sales that help fund the purchase of new books for the libraries. (Held the second Thursday of every month at the Walhalla Library. In addition, there is a Saturday book sale in the spring and in the Fall.)
    • "Meet the Author" events - Occasions when writers, especially local writers, are invited to talk about their works.
  • Friends provides assistance for special library programs and other services when requested.
